Alana comes with first-hand experience of being a parent with a child who had a severe speech sound disorder. It was through seeing her daughter going from only being able to say a handful of speech sounds to having perfect speech today after attending regular speech therapy sessions, that she found a new inspiration in life and quit her IT job of over 10 years and went back to university to become a Speech Language Pathologist herself.
She has gained experience in the speech pathology world in various places including working with adults with swallowing difficulties in a hospital setting, to helping school kids in rural Queensland via telehealth clinics as well as Child Development Services with complex requirements. In addition to her professional experience, she is also a mum of 3 primary school aged kids who keep her on her toes, but it has also given her the inside experience of being the parent of children who need speech pathology intervention. All her babies were born with tongue and lip ties and had feeding and eating difficulties, her daughter had a severe phonological speech disorder and she is also helping her kids through literacy difficulties at school. This gives her an excellent understanding of providing appropriate home therapy tasks and she has great empathy for what both the child and their families go through.
Why Kids Chatter?
“Kids Chatter is a family-friendly private practice where the staff strive to help their clients to the best of their abilities. We enjoy working with children and empowering them and their parents to make a difference in their lives.”
While Alana enjoys all aspects of speech pathology, she has a special interest in speech sound disorders and language disorders.
Outside of being a Speech Language Pathologist, Alana keeps herself busy with her husband and 3 kids by getting out in nature with bush walks, trips to the creek and picnics in the park and taking them to various sporting activities. They also love to go on family trips whenever they get the opportunity.
