Judy has over 30 years of experience working with babies, toddlers and children (small and large) to make constructive changes to the way they speak, communicate, eat and drink. The most important thing she has learned is that changes come most easily when everyone is having fun. Rigorous assessments and evidence-based interventions can also be loud and silly.
Judy particularly enjoys working with children whose speech and language emergence is not unfolding in the expected way and children who have severe speech and language disorders. This includes those who might benefit from alternative methods of communication or AAC systems. She aims to adapt her service delivery style to suit the particular needs and preferences of the family and the child, so that all get the right balance of parent/carer coaching, parent/carer education and direct work with the child.
Children with complex needs do best with a team to address those needs thoroughly. Judy’s clinical experience includes working in multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary team settings so she will talk to the rest of your team or help you to gather one.
Judy has had a diverse career in speech pathology including lecturing at the University of Queensland, supervising and mentoring speech pathologists returning to practice after a career break, assessing the eligibility of overseas qualified Speech Language Pathologists for practice in Australia and managing the clinical education of speech pathology students.
Why Kids Chatter?
“I really enjoy working with families and also with a team of Speech Language Pathologists. A well-resourced and well-organised clinic, like Kids Chatter is crucial in allowing the clinicians to work effectively with the families who come to the clinic, while being surrounded by supportive, knowledgeable, positive and energetic colleagues.”
