Laura Slebos

Laura Slebos Profile Kids Chatter Speech Pathology
  • Bachelor of Speech Pathology (Honours), BSpPath(Hons-I), (The University of Queensland)
  • Certified Practising Speech Pathologist

Laura’s passion for speech pathology began long before she knew what the word even meant. When she was in Grade 7, Laura spent her summer holidays helping her younger sister who was struggling with reading, by creating her own little reading program for her. She took matters into her own hands, complete with flashcards, a word dictionary, and a ruler for tracking each line, and spent hours every day reading Harry Potter aloud while her sister followed along. Those weeks of patience, creativity, and teamwork sparked something big: the realisation that communication and learning can completely change someone’s world.

That experience inspired Laura to pursue a career in speech pathology, where she could keep helping others find their voice, confidence, and independence. Before joining Kids Chatter, Laura worked in the community NDIS space, supporting children and young people with speech, language, literacy, and AAC needs. She has particular experience with global developmental delay, autism, and a range of developmental and acquired disabilities, and she’s passionate about family-centred, neurodiversity-affirming care.

Why Kids Chatter?

Laura was drawn to Kids Chatter because she wanted to focus more deeply on paediatrics within a team that genuinely values collaboration, creativity, and laughter as much as clinical excellence. After following the clinic for a while and seeing the mix of professionalism and playfulness that shines through everything we do, she knew it was exactly the kind of environment where she’d thrive, surrounded by like-minded clinicians who care deeply about their clients and each other.

Outside of work, Laura swaps therapy plans for training plans. She has previously competed in powerlifting competitions and she is currently studying to become a personal trainer just for fun, and has a goal to run her first half marathon in 2026. When she’s not in the gym, you’ll find her experimenting with new recipes or walking her family’s three dogs – Lexi, Ruby, and Bella.
